"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everthing I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Mary Peterson leading  a trauma response center in Nepal

Scott is the Field Strategy Coordinator for Global Aid Network (GAiN USA) for West Africa.  Our goal is to help our national Cru teams to build spiritual movements by integrating compassionate care and the proclamation of the gospel.  We are currently active in Mali, Chad, Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Mary serves in the President's Office as the Global Crisis Manager. Her responsiblities include training our teams across the world to prepare and respond to crisis situations.  Most recently she has been involved in helping our ministry respond to the Ebola crisis in West Africa, the earthquake in Nepal as well as terrorist threats in closed countries.

Brandon and Angie Johnson

Please Pray!

I (Angie) have just returned home from an emergency prayer meeting. Last night our church building caught fire and we lost our sanctuary and Sunday school classrooms. We are so utterly heartbroken. Our church has been home to our family spiritually, and I know it is one of the reasons we have thrived in a new country. And now the “home” of our church is gone.

Our church is called ICF (International Christian Fellowship) and is possibly the largest Protestant church on the island with about 200+ attenders. We have no paid staff, but God has blessed us with an active leadership group and members. For example, we’ve organized a Christmas celebration, decorating the sanctuary, baking cookies, and sharing Christ through the music and stories of the night’s program. We’ve run VBS two summers now - VBS being something that had never been done in our city. We host a bible school from Sweden, Monday - Friday. And YFC runs their cafe ministry out of our cafe/fellowship space. I’m continually amazed at how God has used all of us in this unique building, wedged between business, on a narrow street in the old town. Brandon is one of the elders and preaches regularly. I run the kids ministry and do the bookkeeping. We also host a small group of young adults at our house each week. We have enjoyed seeing God use us (and grow us!) in this church body.

Not only are we shaken up, but so are many in the community around us. We are praying for lots things right now but on top of the list is that we shine a light in our neighborhood, and on the island of Cyprus. So many of the churches in Cyprus have contacted us and are praying for us, both in the occupied north and here, in the south. People and churches have opened their doors to ICF and YFC. People that know Jesus and some who don’t. God has reminded me today that a beautiful building is nothing compared to even just one more person knowing him. So pray for opportunities to share Jesus in the midst of this.

Please pray for:

  • Unity in the church
  • Wisdom and strength for Brandon and Daniel, our church’s two elders.
  • That we as a church reflect Jesus to those around us through this.
  • Favor with the insurance company. That they pay, and in a timely manner. Everything in Cyprus is so slow, and not always what it appears to be, so this could be a major problem.

Blessings,

Angie and Brandon
