Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It is summertime! It is the season for fun in the sun! And it is a wonderful season to enjoy the beauty of the Lord’s creation. I pray that we will all enjoy this warmer season. But I am wary of the warmth. I say to myself and to each of you—let us seek the Lord during this season. Let us put appointments with the Lord into our calendars and our schedules. Let us make room to listen to God as He speaks to us. Let us set spiritual goals as well as vacation plans.
I was reading this verse today and found it very convicting.
NIV 2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
Our Lord is always present and He sees everyone and everything. Our Lord sees our hearts. He sees our actions and He knows our motives. This is such a rich comfort! We can live in absolute confidence in our Lord. As we trust in Him—He promises to strengthen us! He knows our needs even before we ask.
So, let us seek Him for strength this vacation season! Let us rely on His guidance and His wisdom as we make plans to relax! Then, as we are relaxing, let us rest in HIM.
Paul prayed a prayer for the church at Colossae that we can use as an outline for our summer prayers:
NIV Colossians 1:9-12 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light.
Pray to know the Will of God for your life.
Pray for understanding from the Holy Spirit to guide you.
Pray that your life will count for eternity.
Pray that you will find pleasure in what pleases your Heavenly Father.
Pray that transformation will characterize your life—that the Fruit of the Spirit will fill your life.
Pray that your journey in this life will provide many opportunities to grow in your relationship with God.
Pray for strength to endure through the difficulties you face.
Pray with thanksgiving that He hears and He answers your prayers.
We had a wonderful time of celebration this past Sunday at FCC. Six people were baptized and gave rich testimonies of their faith in Jesus. We celebrated with those who have graduated and moved into a new phase of life. We remembered those who gave their lives so we could have freedom. Finally, we reminded our children to honor their parents by obeying them. I was blessed to preach three sermons (one on remembering our Lord in our youth; second on the meaning and importance of baptism; and finally a sermon to the children from Ephesians 6:1-3).
This week we will embark on a new sermon series. I have called this “Best Supporting Servants.” It is a biographical study of lesser known heroes of the faith. These are individuals who served the Lord behind the scenes and are celebrated in the New Testament. They are “salt of the earth” type people who honored Jesus in humble ways. (Matthew 5:14-16) This week we celebrate a woman who left a legacy of good works! Her name is Dorcas which means ‘gazelle.” I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday morning at 9:00 or 10:30 a.m.
